FAQ
About money, pizzas and beer and other FAQ
Who is Studium Generale for?
Studium Generale is first and foremost for all ArtEZ students (BA and MA). But we also welcome staff, alumni and other people who are interested. The programmes are accessible to introverts and extroverts, as well as to (shy) activists, thinkers, theorists and makers. Coffee drinkers, soda slurpers, juice addicts, tea sippers or people who prefer water, beer or wine... You are all welcome!

The Studium Generale programme is offered in addition to the education programme; so NO stressing about ECTS, tasks and assignments, demanding people and rules and regulations.
What is Studium Generale for?
Studium Generale is meant to broaden your perspective on many different topics that are important in art and society. You can delve into themes on which you can normally spend less time or about which you already know a lot, but would like to learn more about from a different perspective.

You will meet people from other study programmes, generations and areas of knowledge, such as other disciplines in art, science, philosophy, technology and society, and you will share knowledge, ideas and questions.
What does Studium Generale organise?
We organise lots of different activities, such as workshops, discussions, lectures, podcast sessions and reading groups (see our agenda). We also have an online programme with video lectures, podcasts, blogs and digital publications on our online platform APRIA. Check the site @studies and @APRIA!

You can actively participate in our programme, take part in the discussions and workshops, but you can also just come and listen and gain inspiration. We provide an open programme for flexible thinking, respectful sharing and experimental work.
Do I have to pay to attend?
Most of our events and workshops are free, but we do like you to sign up via our website.
At which location does the Studium Generale programme take place?
EVERYWHERE!!! Well, almost everywhere. We organise our programme mainly in the three ArtEZ cities (Arnhem, Enschede and Zwolle), in different locations. Sometimes in school, sometimes outside school in bookstores, (film)theatres, at festivals etc. in town. It depends on the programme and the partners we team up with. In our agenda you will find the location listed with every event. And of course, you can visit the programme in the town you like!
How can students work with Studium Generale?
We love to work with you and a lot is possible! We regularly invite students to think along with us. We even create paid assignments for this. For example, to help think about communication and about our programme, to write blogs or make Instagram posts or to co-curate. Interested? Please come along and have a coffee with us.
Are there internships available?
YES, YES, YES, just send us an email.
Can you help organise my project?
YES WE CAN!

We have a great deal of experience in organising research processes and curating knowledge. The connection between art, science and society lies at the heart of our approach.
You can bring us in for advice and organisation, which we can provide in all kinds of forms, be it an advisory document, a symposium, an expert meeting, an exhibition, a toolkit or a podcast. We enjoy being of service to you - students, teaching staff and others.
Can I show my work in one of your programmes?
There are a lot of possibilities for staging your work as an artist within our programmes and publications. You can post podcasts and blogs or maybe your research via our website/podcast/APRIA platform.
Do you dole out money, pizzas and beer?
Uhm, it depends…but, yes we do...
Can you teach me more about podcasts?
Sure, check the toolkit on our website. Interested in making podcasts and posting them on our platform? Please get in touch with us via studiumgenerale@artez.nl.
What is APRIA (ArtEZ Platform for Research Interventions of the Arts)?
It is an online platform that curates a peer-reviewed journal (APRIA journal) and publishes high-impact essays and image and sound contributions that examine art and interventions of the arts in relation to science and society. ArtEZ Studium Generale and ArtEZ Press are the editorial board. See www.apria.artez.nl
How does Studium Generale relate to ArtEZ University of the Arts?
Within the institute we are ArtEZ’s Knowledge Curation Centre. This means that we bring knowledge from within and outside the institute together and share it everywhere. We select, reflect and present big or small questions, radical plans and ideas, new concepts and impact stories. In doing so we valorise and disseminate (ArtEZ)knowledge in all its diversity. We put critical questions that are relevant in art, science and society on the agenda and we offer platforms to discuss them. In this way we give (aspiring) artists the opportunity to get involved in this conversation. In so doing we underline the importance and the powerful role that art can play in society.

The Studium Generale programme is additional to the education programme that the University offers. We create learning spaces that are not restricted by educational rules and limitations. In these spaces we exchange ideas with people outside the structures of daily reality (work, classroom, community). That is essential, because we believe in the magic of exchange between people from different backgrounds, with different knowledge and histories. We believe in listening to multiple voices and in learning with and from each other. We are part of ArtEZ Research and OutReach, but our programme is open to all ArtEZ departments, students, staff, alumni and others.

In summary
ArtEZ Studium Generale is a catalyst for meaningful and radical ideas, projects and stories. As a Knowledge Curation Centre, ArtEZ Studium Generale selects, reflects and presents knowledge and organises (research) processes in a context where the knowledge domains of art, science and society come together.
But why Studium Generale?
