Bas Gaakeer
peopleBas Gaakeer is a versatile guitar player based in Amsterdam. He has performed in several projects, bands and orchestras throughout Europe and the Middle East. Bas has been travelling to Jordan for music educational projects in refugee camps since the age of nineteen. These trips made him fall in love with Arabic music and culture which became an important part of his musical life.
As a guitarist and composer, Bas gained valuable experience working in Caïro with choreographers and fellow musicians. His interdisciplinary work in the Netherlands includes composing music for several theatre productions with partners such as The National Opera of the Netherlands and ISH Dance Collective. As a permanent member, Bas plays with the band Ten-Hut and classical guitar trio DEBU. Together with Samira Dainan he founded the Moroccan/Dutch band Samira’s Blues.
Bas has a teaching position at the faculties Music in Education and Classical Music at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam (Amsterdam University of Arts) where he was trained as both a Classical Guitarist and Music Educator.
